Ben. J. Banas, 96, formerly of Lombard, IL, Lauderdale Lakes, FL and most recently Concord, NC passed away peacefully at his Concord, NC home on September 20, 2016. Ben was born on August 18, 1920 in Cicero, IL to Peter and Rose (Janka) Banas. Ben was the third child in a loving family of eight. Mr. Banas served his country in the United States
Army during
WWII in the 82nd Airborne, 60th Infantry Regiment. He spent nine long months in a German Prisoner of War Camp. Upon liberation he returned home to Cicero, IL and married his sweetheart Dolores Chiles on September 7, 1946, they were blessed by God with four children. He worked tirelessly for over 40 years supporting his family as a Clean Shop Manager for Taylor Forge Industries in Cicero, IL. Upon retirement he and his wife followed their dream and moved to Lauderdale Lakes, FL, where he enjoyed sixteen years of riding his bike daily to the beach. In 2010 Ben moved to Concord, NC to be loved and comforted by his daughter and family, fellow veteran friends as well as his church family. He is survived by his three children, Donald J. and Alice Banas, of Lauderdale Lakes, FL, Robert J. and Margaret Banas of Orland Park, IL and daughter Debra (Banas) and Edward Morris of Concord, NC. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Jennifer Banas Madsen (Michael), Jeffrey Banas, Jacquelyn Banas, Mallori (Greg), and Alyssa Angolia (Micheal); and four great grandchildren, Zachary and Lily Madsen, Aniston Winters and Baby Angolia. He is also survived by his two remaining sisters and countless nieces and nephews. He is perceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Dolores and his son William. Ben's final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery with a Military Honors Ceremony on November 9, 2016 @ 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local VA or local veterans affairs organizations. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord, NC, is serving the Banas family.
