Ben Patrick Ireland, age 12, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, after bravely battling leukemia for several years since the age of 8. Born on May 30, 2012, Ben was a joyful and spirited child who brought endless laughter to everyone who knew him. He was known for his radiant smile, infectious giggle, and a heart full of love. Ben spent his days surrounded by friends, including Chloe, Jahsiah, Dominic, and many others, all of whom hold cherished memories of his bright, adventurous spirit.

This sweet photo was taken by a professional photographer when Ben was just 10 months old. It’s one of those rare, beautiful moments that really captured the innocence and joy of his early years. That picture means so much to me and his stepdad. We both remember how his little smile would light up the whole room, and how his eyes were full of curiosity and wonder. It felt like he already knew just how loved he was, even at that age. We couldn’t believe how fast he was growing, and now that photo is a forever reminder of those early days—full of love, laughter, and so much promise for the future. Every time we see it, we’re reminded of that special bond we shared with him and how grateful we are for those moments that became memories we’ll cherish forever.

This photo was taken when Ben was just a baby, capturing one of the sweetest moments of his early years. It was the moment when he learned his very first word—dada. I remember how his little face lit up with joy as he said it for the first time, a simple word but one that carried so much meaning. For his father and me, it was a moment we’ll cherish forever. There was something so pure and special about hearing Ben’s tiny voice say "dada" with such innocence and excitement. It was a milestone that marked the beginning of so many more beautiful moments, and it will always hold a special place in our hearts.
