Ben V. FloresSan AngeloBen V. Flores, 78, of San Angelo, went to be with our Lord on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at his residence. Ben was born on Dec. 16, 1938, to Anastacio and Felipa (Villanueva) Flores in San Angelo, Texas. Ben worked as an Administrative Clerk at GTE for 24 yearsBen was a loving father, proud grandfather, adoring great-grandfather, devoted brother, dedicated uncle, and faithful friend. He was a man of great faith who loved the Lord and who sought God's grace humbly and prayerfully; his life story is one of redemption and hope.During his life, Ben enjoyed playing golf and volunteering his time in many local organizations, however, he was most passionate about his granddaughters and eventually, his great-grandchildren, whom he loved very dearly. From sports games to choir and orchestra concerts; to dance recitals, graduations, baptisms, and weddings; and more recently to gender reveals and superhero birthday parties, Ben was there. Always in the background, always beaming with pride, and always with a twinkle in his eye and a heart full of love for his family.When he wasn't spending time with his family, Ben was very active in his church and community. He was a very humble man, and didn't speak of his contributions frequently, but he truly had a servant's heart. Ben was a member of the United States Army Reserves until 1963 and a member of the Texas Association of Healthcare Volunteers, at Shannon Medical Center, for over 20 years. In addition, Ben volunteered with Meals for the Elderly and at Rio Vista Elementary and Reagan Elementary through the Volunteer in Public Schools program, as well as Angelo Catholic School. He served as usher at St. Mary's Catholic Church and also volunteered with the church Funeral Ministry.He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother, Elena Villanueva, his aunt, Paulina Barron, his sister, Elizabeth Garcia, and his brother-in-law, Sabino Garcia.Ben is survived by his daughter, Sylvia Gallegos and her husband, Gilbert, of San Angelo, Texas; son, Michael Flores of Dallas, Texas; granddaughters, Analisa McCain and husband, Casey, of Midland, Texas, and Leana Escobar and husband, Kevin, of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren, Grant Gilbert McCain and Flora Louise McCain; and brother, Dan Flores of San Angelo, Texas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.Pallbearers will be Michael Flores, Gilbert Gallegos, Casey McCain, Kevin Escobar, Bobby Garcia, and Louis Parras. Honorary Pallbearers will be Armando Rios, Jesse Rodriguez, Juan Hernandez, and the members of Shannon Volunteer Services.Rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Joey Faylona officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
