Benjamin "Johnny" Smith was born December 3,1959, in Chicago, IL. He was the 2nd of 3 siblings born to Benjamin and Gladys Smith, who preceded him in death. He was an active member of Holy Name of Mary Church and choir as the main drummer. He was also the chairperson of the Afrocentric committee. As a true lover of music and rhythm he filled the room with amazing sounds every time he played.
Benjamin attended Mendel Catholic High School and went on to attain a Bachelors Degree from University of Illinois in Chicago. He received his degree as a Paralegal and worked and excelled at the companies he worked at. He was a phenomenal employee at Wells Fargo until he retired in 2022.
Benjamin loved music so much that he played in a band called "Life's Purpose" as a teenager. He would speak of the fond memories of playing at high school parties with his bandmates and friends. As a parent he filled the house with music from Earth Wind and Fire, Prince and Michael Jackson. He made sure his children knew what "good music" was and still is.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Justin Smith(Charlotte), Niccole Smith McCarter(Joseph) and Brooklynne Cherry. His Siblings: Elizabeth Price( deceased), and Jennifer G. Smith. His estranged wife Cheri and step daughter Chelby and his grandchildren Charleigh Smith and Jayson Smith.
