ANGOLA — Benjamin D. Mercer, 39, died Sunday, May 25, 2014. He was born on March 18, 1975 in Coldwater, Michigan, to James and Nancy (Robinson) Mercer. He graduated from Angola High School in 1993. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served from 1993-1997. He previously worked at Vestil Manufacturing in Angola. Ben loved music and was an accomplished guitar player, having played in several local bands, participated in martial arts and was very patriotic. He married DeLena (Lybarger) Mercer, April 14, 2007, in Key West, Florida, and she survives in Angola. Also surviving are one daughter, Jasmine Seghi of Bloomington, Indiana; his mother, Nancy Mercer of Angola; and one sister Laura Mercer of Angola. He was preceded in death by his father, James Mercer. Services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014, at H.E. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 108 S. West St., Angola, at 11 a.m., with calling 1 hour prior to services. Pastor Jeff Alexander of the Hamilton Church of Christ will officiate. Calling will be Friday, May 30, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow after services Saturday. Memorials are requested to the family.
