It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Benjamin Gardner, a man of many talents and few grandchildren. Benjamin was born on June 28, 1944 in Stamford, Connecticut to his loving parents Edward and Mary Gardner.
Benjamin married the love of his life, Patricia Williams, in 1972 and together they raised three children: David (spouse Joanne), Michele (spouse Wes), and Matthew (spouse Kathy). Unfortunately, Michele passed away in 2008, leaving behind a loving spouse.
Benjamin attended Brunswick School for high school, graduating in 1962. He then went on to Columbia University where he graduated in 1966. Throughout his career, Benjamin worked as an author and zoologist, retiring in 2010. He dedicated much of his time to helping in the ALA organization.
Benjamin was awarded 6 National Book Awards and even won a Pulitzer Award for his exceptional work. In his free time, he enjoyed writing, drawing, playing games, watching TV, and hanging out with his beloved pets.
Benjamin passed away from complications related to lung cancer and Type 1 diabetes. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the literary community he was so deeply involved in. Also worked for The Gardner Ship Company from 1967-1970
