Benjamin Mitchell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community leader, passed away on March 4, 2024, in a tragic automobile accident. He was born on April 10, 1955, in Burlington, North Carolina, to Jessie and Elizabeth Mitchell.Benjamin married the love of his life, Melissa Mitchell, in 1994. Together, they raised three children: Benjamin Jr., Louise Mitchell-Jones, and LaTasha Mitchell. Benjamin was a devoted grandfather to his 10 grandchildren.He attended Williams High School, graduating in 1972, and went on to North Carolina Central University, earning his degree in 1977. Benjamin dedicated his career to education, serving as the Principal of Williams High School until his retirement in 2020. He was awarded Principal of the Year for his outstanding leadership and commitment to his students.Benjamin also served his country proudly in the Army, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He was a dedicated member of the Big Brother Association, where he mentored and supported young people in his community.Outside of his professional life, Benjamin had a passion for fishing and driving antique cars. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and participating in local car shows.Benjamin Mitchell will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to his family and community, and his unwavering commitment to education. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
