Bennett Carlton Ware, 95, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Sunshine Terrace on Oct. 24, 2009. Bennett was born on Dec. 2, 1913, in Martinez, Calif., to Edwin Ware and Geneva Taylor Ware. He was the youngest of eight children. Bennett married the love of his life, Regina Schroll, on Oct. 4, 1947. They resided for many years in Concord, Calif., where they raised their two daughters. After retiring in 1974 from Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Ben and Regina moved to Logan, Utah. For many years, prior to suffering a stroke, Ben could be seen on the banks of the Logan River enjoying his passion for fishing. After the death of his beloved Regina, Bennett became a resident of Legacy House where he developed the well earned reputation of checker champion. He lived there for five years before moving to Terrace Grove. After breaking his hip, Bennett spent the last weeks of his life on Wing 6 at Sunshine Terrace. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Wendell, Geneva, Edna, Leola, Thera, Audrey and Elwin. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, John Whitcome. He is survived by his daughters Carole Whitcome and Bonnie (Dan) Merck, both of Logan. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Kelly Stevens, Chad (Wendee) Whitcome, Katie (Jason) Spangenberg, Tessa Merck and Seth Merck; and seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank those who helped with Bennett's care over the years: doctors Michael Stones, Brant Fonnesbeck and Todd Brown; and the staff of Legacy House, Terrace Grove, Primrose Hospice and Wing 6 of Sunshine Terrace (Chris and Andrea, you were wonderful not only to our dad but also to us - thank you so much!) A private memorial service will be held for Bennett at a later date.
