LAGRANGE — Bennie A. Johnson, 64, of LaGrange was called home by his heavenly Father on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at home in the company of his family. Bennie was born on Feb. 7, 1952 in Sharkey, Kentucky to Bennie O. and Violet (Hicks) Johnson. They preceded him in death. Moving from Kentucky to LaGrange County in 1966, he worked for many years at Machine Rite in LaGrange and as a custodian for Lakeland School Corporation. He had also worked with his sister at the Robin's Nest Floral and Gift Shop delivering flowers. Bennie loved God, spending time with family, fishing and hunting. He was blessed with an additional 15 years of life after receiving a heart transplant in July 2001. His family will forever be thankful for this selfless gift. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Katrina and John Freed of Evansville, and Jessica and Joe Cassel of LaGrange; five grandchildren, Madeline and Emma Freed, Austin Collins, and Braeden and Callen Cassel; five sisters, Evelyn Reddick of Howe, Carolene and Glen A. Jackson of Howe, Diane and Porter Bowdish of Howe, Edwina and Art Myers of Montgomery, Michigan, and Robin and Chad Tuttle of Howe; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange with Revs. Glen Jackson and Mark Emelander officiating. Burial will follow at Ontario Cemetery in rural Howe. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
