Berkley Wayne Turner, 89, passed away at home on November 17, 2016 after several months in hospice care. Berkley was born on November 7, 1927 in Pulaski, VA, where the family lived until moving briefly to Detroit. In the 1940's his family eventually settled in Front Royal, VA, where he graduated from Warren County High School in the Class of 1946. After serving in the Navy on the USS Providence from 1946 to 1948, Berkley attended Coyne Electrical Institute in Chicago and later worked at Allied Chemical in Front Royal. From 1965 to 1974, he was the facilities manager for the Forrest Mars estate at Zulla near Middleburg, Va. A lover of farming since his youth, Berkley owned and operated his own cattle farm on the outskirts of Front Royal until his retirement in 2008. Berkley was a lifelong Methodist who gave selflessly and lovingly to the church, and all of his friends and family admired his generosity, good humor, wisdom, and optimism.Berkley leaves behind his wife, Lynda (Evans) Turner; his son, Carlton Wayne Turner and wife Anne; his son, Tildon Lee Turner and his wife Gioia; his stepdaughter, Tanya Zinn Jones and her husband Warren; his stepson, Thomas Zinn; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and his sister, Evelyn. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Doris (Kines); his two brothers, Claude and Donald; and his sister, Thelma.The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 20 at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal from 6 to 8 p.m.Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 21 at Riverton United Methodist Church in Front Royal.The family requests that in lieu of sending flowers donations be made to either Riverton United Methodist Church or Blue Ridge Hospice.
