Bernard W. "Bernie" RemmertROANOKE - Bernard W. "Bernie" Remmert, 87, of Roanoke passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home.He was born on June 18, 1929, in Panola, IL, to Otto A. and Sophie Sadina Willamena Menssen Remmert. He married Phyllis Ann Vincent on June 29, 1952, in El Paso, IL. She survives, along with two daughters, Debra (Ken) Beschorner of Germantown Hills and Linda (Jeff) Lau of Warrenton, VA; one son, Gary L. Remmert of Key West, FL; four grandchildren, Benjamin J. Remmert of Peoria, Jennifer M. Remmert of Peoria Heights, Leslie A. Lau of Warrenton, VA, and Abby N. Beschorner of Germantown Hills; and two brothers, Waldo A. Remmert of Eureka, IL, and Richard L. (Sandy) Remmert of Monticello, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents.Bernie was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, a past member and Past Vice-Commander of the American Legion Post #463 of Roanoke. He was a licensed funeral director, actively serving for 42 years. He had managed the Vincent Funeral Home in Roanoke. He opened Remmert Funeral Home in Roanoke in 1965. Later, with his son, Gary, he owned and operated Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Also, during this time, he and Phyllis developed and operated Remmert Nursing Home and Lorene's Dress Shop, both in Roanoke. He was a member of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, and a member and Past-President of the District 8 Funeral Directors Association. Very active in his community, Bernie helped re-organize the Boy Scout Troop and served as Scout Master. He was a member and Past-Treasurer of the Roanoke Business Men's Association, a member and recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow of the Roanoke Rotary Club. He had been a member of the Roanoke Trinity Lutheran Church, having served as a Chairman of the Congregation, an Elder, and taught the Confirmation Class. He currently was a member and attended the El Paso Trinity Lutheran Church.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at the Roanoke Trinity Lutheran Church. The Revs Jon Boehne and Bruce Scarsbeary will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, and for one hour prior to the services on Thursday, both at the Roanoke Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Roanoke Township Cemetery.Memorials may be made to the El Paso Trinity Lutheran Church, the Roanoke Trinity Lutheran Church or the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.Online condolences and tributes may be made at www.
