Bernardo "Benny" R. BenavidezFREMONT: Bernardo "Benny" R. Benavidez, 80, of Fremont, passed away at 2:55 p.m., Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Bethesda Care Center in Fremont. Bernardo was born on August 18, 1936 in Realitos, Texas, to the late Emilio and Petra (Rodriguez) Benavidez. He married the love of his life, Alicia (Cardenas) in Tiffin on October 19, 1957 and she survives in Fremont. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Rita (Tom Steinmetz) Brubaker of Kansas, Minerva (Gilbert Esquvel) Benavidez of Fremont, Bernardo (Rena) Benavidez Jr. of Burgoon, Lucilda (Keith Jeakle) Webb of Findlay, Noe Benavidez of Fremont, Lee Benavidez of Fremont, and Nelda (Mike Osborne) Benavidez of Findlay, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, Noe Benavidez of Perrysburg and Joe Benavidez of Burgoon, and a special granddaughter, Kellie Benavidez, who took care of him throughout his illness. Bernardo was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Bobby Benavidez. Bernardo retired from the Kelsey Hayes factory in Fremont and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Millersville. He enjoyed collecting coins, old cars, and playing cards. Bernardo had a wonderful sense of humor and will be remembered by those that knew him as a very funny man who was always making jokes. A private memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting with funeral arrangements.
