Bernice Johnson, 88, of St. Augustine, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Moultrie Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her family by her side. She was born on Aug. 23, 1928, in Boston, Massachusetts, to John and Molly Alves. She attended the Boston School of Practical Art. Bernice was very talented she enjoyed painting and photography. Bernice is survived by her four children, Mark Johnson, Geoffrey Johnson, Jennifer Anastacio and husband, Mark, all of St. Augustine, Ellen Close and husband, Edward and granddaughter, Natalie Close of Palm Harbor, Florida. Bernice also is survived by her sister, Marjorie Dube of Norwalk, Connecticut, and three nieces, Deborah Lynch of Massachusetts, Janet Grainger and Lauren Taylor of Connecticut. Bernice was a warm and compassionate person. She will be missed by us all, but always remembered and loved. We look forward to the time when God himself will be with them, and he "will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more. Neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away" (Rev. 21:3,4). Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Aug. 5, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2924 S.R. 16, St. Augustine. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Moultrie Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Vitas for the compassionate care that was given to Bernice during her last days.
