Bernice LittleMay 3, 1921 - Oct. 19, 2016CarmelBernice passed away serenely surrounded by her family just as the sun was setting on October 19th in Carmel, California. Bernice was 95 years old and a remarkable woman. Her legacy and love will leave a footprint on all our hearts forever, as her family adored her in so many ways. Bernice was born on May 3, 1921 to Alice I. Altree and Horace V. Altree in Salt Lake City, Utah. She arrived in this world with an energetic spirit that remained with her throughout her life. Her enthusiasm and positive independent force gave her unique ability to live life with conviction and love. As a young girl Bernice was an outstanding student and athlete. Tennis was a passion of hers as she was an accomplished tennis player in her teens on the state level. All her live she was a voracious reader and was a rather eloquent person. She was most often chosen to speak on occasions of importance and continued to write her speeches and deliver them beautifully well into her nineties. She was a charter member of the Eastern Star Chapter in Carmel. She served as their Worthy Matron and held many other Star Points. She also served as Grand Adah for the California state chapter Order of the Eastern Star in the years 1955 and 1956.Her true passion was her family. Bernice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- great grandmother. She was always interested in what everyone was doing and what they had to share. She always remembered what each family member was engaged in and was always eagerly waiting to hear any family updates. Whichever role, Mom, Grandma or Great-Grandma (GGB) she always accompanied the "news" from her family with an open heart and mind. She was always the first to praise her family to hearten their accomplishments or lend an ear and/or hand to comfort their heartaches. Bernice has left a beautiful legacy. Her strength, class, kindness and love will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.
