Bernice PerdueWaukeeBernice Ann Perdue, 89, passed away on May 25, 2017. Visitation will be held at Westover Funeral Home on Hickman Rd Thursday, June 1st from 5 - 7 pm. A Memorial Service with Fellowship following will be 10 am on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the West Des Moines Christian Church, 4501 George Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines.Bernie was born on May 2, 1928 to Roy and Ethel Perdue in Glenwood, Iowa. She moved to West Des Moines in 1960, retiring from Northwestern Bell in 1982 after 36 years of service. Following her retirement, she continued her commitment to charity work with her involvement as a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. Her volunteer work to help her community be a better place in which to live and work continued throughout Bernie's life.Never really retiring, Bernie gave of her time and talents to many, serving as a financial secretary for the West Des Moines Christian Church for over 20 years and as Parish Visitor and Women's Ministries coordinator for many years. In addition to serving her church family, Bernie gave of herself as president of the Ramsey Guild and the West Des Moines Women's Club. She was a charter member and president of the Valley Junction AARP Chapter. In 2011, Bernie moved to Legacy Pointe retirement community and served as president of the residence's association.Bernie will be missed by her loving church family, her nieces, Shelly (Chris) Troup of Center Point, IA, and Penny (Charles) Johnston of Kansas City, MO; her nephews, David (Christine) Hartenhoff of Long Beach, CA, and Michael Merino of Center Point, IA; 12 great-nieces and nephews, 17 great great-nieces and nephews, 1 great great great niece and many friends.
