Bertha Mae (Liberatore) Johnson passed away peacefully on February 22, 2017. She was 86 years old.Bert was born on May 18, 1930 in Niles, Ohio, the eldest of three daughters. She graduated from the Ohio State University and served in the United States Navy as a Registered Nurse. She married her loving husband, Bob, in 1964 and they started their family of two children.Bert and Bob moved to Bishop, CA in 1973, where she eventually found employment at the Employment Development Department. After retiring in 1993, Bert found time to pursue her many passions. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed taking care of her entire family. She also enjoyed traveling and playing slot machines in Laughlin, NV.In June 1994 Bert began volunteering for the Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary, where she worked until her death. This was truly a labor of love for her as she enjoyed the many friendships that she developed with the Auxiliary. Bert also volunteered at the Bishop Senior Center where she coordinated Senior Bingo for many years. Bert is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bob; her son, Bob Jr. and wife, Beth; her daughter, Sandy and husband, Rey; and her four grandchildren, Reynaldo, Bailey, Randi and Brandon. She is preceded in death by her sisters Lucy Cailor and Joan Barnes.Bert's family would like to thank Dr. Nickoline Hathaway for her many years of caring for Bert and would like to thank the Northern Inyo Hospital and Bishop Care Center for the care they provided for her during her recent illness. No memorial service will be held for Bert. The family requests that donations be made to the Northern Inyo Hospital Auxiliary in lieu of flowers.
