QUIRING, BerthaOn February 20, 2017, Bertha Quiring passed away peacefully at her home at Good Shepherd Villa in Prince Albert. Bertha was born on April 10, 1923 at her parents' farm at Mennon, Saskatchewan to Peter and Margaretha Quiring. She attended Willow Lake and Dalmeny High School. She took teacher training at the Normal school in Saskatoon. Later, she received her Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Saskatchewan. She taught at various schools in Saskatchewan, including Meadow Lake, Elfros, Langham, Leney, Arlee, and Asquith. In 1959, she began teaching at Prince Albert. She taught primary grades and the last half of her teaching career she taught Grade 1, finishing her career at Arthur Pechey School. In December 1980 she retired. After retirement, she kept herself busy doing volunteer work. She spent many hours visiting and feeding patients at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert. She also enjoyed travelling. She visited Australia, Hong Kong, England and Austria. She also spent a few weeks each winter in Hawaii with her brother Henry and his family. Bertha was also a member of the Wesley United Church, having been baptized in 1979. On May 4, 2006 she moved into Good Shepherd Villa. She resided there until her passing. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Margaretha Quiring, her sisters Hilda Loewen and Martha Black, her brothers Samuel Quiring, Henry Quiring, Len Quiring and Peter Quiring, her brother-in- law Peter Loewen, her sisters-in-law Martha Quiring, Doreen Quiring and Susan Quiring, niece Jeannine Woodhouse and nephew-in- law Sam Doell. She is survived by her brother- in-law Walter Black and numerous nieces and nephews, Norma Doell, Vic Loewen, Murray Quiring, Ruth Pilot, Vivian Quiring, Vern Quiring, Carolyn Bray, Brenda Kalina, Heather Prystupa, Blaine Quiring, Andrew Black, Bryan Black, along with their spouses and families. Bertha's family would like to thank the staff at Good Shepherd's Villas for the excellent care she received. A special thank you to Pat for all her care and concern for our Aunt. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Gray's Funeral Chapel, 575-28th Street West, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan with Reverend Tony Thompson officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
