Bess Austin Chapman Jan. 15, 1917 - Feb. 1, 2017 Macon, GA- Bess Austin Chapman passed away Wednesday, February 01, 2017. Graveside services will be at 11:00AM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Reverend John Bagwell officiating. Family will greet friends between 2:00-4:00PM Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Mrs. Chapman was born on January 15, 1917, in Fort Valley, Georgia. Mrs. Chapman worked for Price Administration during the war passing out ration coupons for food, gas, and tires. Later, she served 40 years as a professional in the field of banking. Mrs. Chapman has contributed to her community in several areas by serving in the Macon Woman's Club, Middle Georgia Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary, and Cherokee Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Chapman's special interests include her children, grandchildren, family, friends, bridge, walking, and general exercise. Since 2001, she has resided at Carlyle Place in Macon, Georgia. Mrs. Chapman was the daughter of the late William Burton Austin and Evie Price Austin. She was the widow of Paul Wesley Chapman, Sr. She is also predeceased by her son, Paul Wesley Chapman, Jr.; and sister, Helen Austin Lowe. Mrs. Chapman is survived by her son, Stephen Austin Chapman (Geri) of Burr Ridge, Illinois; grandchildren, Dustin Chapman (Elizabeth) of Phoenix, Arizona; Mackenzie Chapman of Chicago, Illinois; nephew, Chester A. Lowe, Jr. (June) of Warner Robins; great nephew, Brett Lowe (Tina) of Atlanta; great niece, Lizabeth Mellon (Todd) of Washington, DC.; and great niece, Leslie Lowe Brown (Chris) of Macon Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
