Bette E. UffenbeckVero Beach, FLBette E. Uffenbeck, 92, of Appleton, Wisconsin, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Florida.Bette was born on June 15, 1924 in Hartford, Wisconsin, one of two children born to Harvey and Irma Emmer. She attended the
University of Wisconsin, Madison where she met her future husband Robert (Bob). They were married in 1943 and moved to Charleston, West Virginia, where Bob worked as a chemical engineer. In 1947 the couple moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to join the family jewelry business, C. W. Uffenbeck and Son Jewelers. Together Bob and Bette expanded and modernized the business and Uffenbeck Jewelers became a well-known landmark in downtown Fond du Lac. Following Bob's semi-retirement in 1988, the couple took up winter residence in Vero Beach, Florida where they enjoyed many years socializing with friends and family. Bette especially enjoyed taking long walks along the shores of the nearby ocean, a practice she continued well into her eighties and early nineties. Shortly before Bob's death in 2005, she moved to Appleton, Wisconsin to be near her sons. There she continued to enjoy her family and weekly bridge games in which she was quite successful. She was an exceptionally kind and caring person and will be missed by all of her family and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2005, an infant son Robert Uffenbeck Jr. and Carl W. Uffenbeck II in 1983. She is survived by sons John (Kathy) of Cable, Wisconsin; Mark (Julie) of Port Charlotte, Florida; and Rob (Maria) of Appleton, Wisconsin; brother Tom of Bryson, Texas; five grandchildren Daniel, Benjamin (Shannon), Michael (Kristen), Erika (Brandon) and Alexia Uffenbeck, and three great grandchildren, Chyron, Annabel, and Torin Uffenbeck.A celebration of Bette's life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Vero Beach, Florida, in April. Arrangements are by the Englewood Community Funeral Home, Englewood, Florida.
