Hammen, Betty A.Betty A. (Vander Putten) Hammen, age 87, of Little Chute, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2017. She was born on April 10, 1930, daughter of the late Ted and Anna (Smits) Vander Putten. Betty attended Holy Rosary Catholic Grade School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1948. She married Roger "Lefty" Hammen on July 14, 1954, and he preceded her in death on May 10, 1987.Betty's best memories were of the family baker shop in New Holstein. She was also a bookkeeper at St. Aubin Construction in Little Chute for 17 years. Betty enjoyed playing slots, scrabble and crossword puzzles, doing oil paintings, taking care of her yard and apple/pear trees and she loved a good plate of frog legs with a whiskey old fashion with a squirt of orange juice. Of course, the ice cream for dessert was a must. Betty is survived by her sister, June (Gordy) Propson and a sister-in-law, Katie Vander Putten. She is also survived by Roger's family: Gordon (Margie) Hammen, Grace Hoffman and Jo Hammen; in addition to many very special nieces and nephews and close friends, who all held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her parents, Ted and Ann; brothers: Bob, Ralph and Gene; and a niece and Goddaughter, Roberta Vander Putten. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine Street, Little Chute, with Msgr. Jim Vanden Hogen officiating. Family and friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. For online condolences, please visit
