Betty EvansCamarillo, CABetty Evans, 93, passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2017. She was born on January 1, 1924, in Russell, Iowa, the third of seven children to Warren and Lillian Lodge. On May 17, 1944, she signed up to become a WAVE in the U.S. Navy. She attended boot camp at Hunter College in New York City. After a brief time in New Orleans, she was stationed at NAS Hitchcock, a blimp base near Galveston, Texas. A Storekeeper First Class, she worked in Supply and was one of the first two women on the base. She met her future husband, Lawrence "Dan" Evans, a U.S. Navy sailor, and separated from the Navy in August 1946 to marry Dan in January 1947 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. During their 70 years of marriage they lived in Illinois, where their two sons were born, Florida, New York, Texas, where their daughter was born, Tennessee, Kansas, and California, first in Coronado, then Point Mugu, and finally Camarillo, upon Dan's retirement from the Navy. Betty was a mom and a homemaker until her boys left to join the Air Force and her daughter got older. She then had careers in floristry, retail management, and medical billing. After retirement she volunteered many years in the gift shop at Pleasant Valley Hospital. "Gram" also always loved taking part in her grandsons' many activities. She will truly be missed by all three of "the boys". Betty is survived by husband Dan, sons Michael (Sandra) and Stephen (Shirley), daughter Nancy (Chris), three grandsons, Alex, Jeffrey, and Joshua, and a sister and brother.Special thanks to her caregiver, Maria Trujillo, for the loving care she provided Betty on her last few days with us. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2304 Antonio Avenue, Camarillo, with a reception to immediately follow. Inurnment will be held at Conejo Mountain Reflections Nature Garden at 10:00 on Monday, March 6, 2017, with an Honor Guard present. The family requests you attend the memorial and inurnment wearing something patriotic in honor of her being a Veteran and former Navy wife.
