BETTY ISABELLE WELLMAN CLARK, 89, of Orange, Va., formerly of Huntington, W.Va., died of complications from a stroke on Oct. 22, 2016. She was under the care of Hospice of the Piedmont at Dogwood Village in Orange. Betty was born on Dec. 14, 1926, in Huntington. She was one of nine children of Noah Belle and Barbara Stanley Wellman. Her parents and all of her siblings preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Dr. David S. Clark, also of Orange; three children, Anne Clark Beavers of Orange, Rebecca Clark Whyley of Colorado Springs, Colo., and David S. Clark of Decatur, Ga.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law in South Carolina; and several nephews. Dr. and Mrs. Clark retired from Huntington to Charlottesville, Va., in 1997. Betty graduated from Marshall University. She taught public school and played the violin in the Huntington Symphony Orchestra for several years in the 1940s and '50s. She actively supported the musical arts. Betty was also a member of the auxiliary to the West Virginia Medical Association and served as state auxiliary president in the 1970s. Betty enjoyed traveling and was also widely admired for her talents and abilities in the realms of crafting, sewing and needle arts. She participated in many shows and fairs with a beautiful range of her various handmade items. Her most cherished roles were as wife and mother, friend and neighbor. She will be missed by all who knew her. A funeral service will be held at
Grace Episcopal Church, Keswick, Va., on Saturday, Oct. 29. Inurnment will be at
Oakwood Cemetery, Unionville, Va. Funeral arrangements are being handled by
