Betty J. Duncan Age 94, of Battle Creek, MI and formerly of San Rafael, CA, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016. She was born on November 20, 1921, the first baby born at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville, IL. Betty was the daughter of Lee J. and Eva Mae (Herche) McClelland and grew up in Mt. Sterling, IL. Betty married her high school sweetheart, Richard K. Duncan in Mt. Sterling, IL on December 24, 1940; he sadly preceded her in death in 1990. She was also preceded in death by her son, J. Scott Duncan in 1974; a son-in-law, Philip Holden; a brother, James L. McClelland; and three sisters, Lois (Michael) Carroll, Louise (Tom) Clark, Norma (Bill) Hagan. Betty is survived by her daughter, Linda Holden; her grandson, Jeffrey D. (Denise) Holden; three great-grandchildren, Cole, Stephen and Aleah Holden; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was a loving mother and wife, and truly loved being with her family. She lived in California for more than 65 years, including San Jose, Palo Alto, San Rafael, and lived in Michigan for the past seven years. Betty was always active in her community and one to step in where she was needed. She loved to do crafts and miniatures, and instrumental in starting a club called "Mini Hours". Betty was also a member of the Marin General Hospital Guild, Eastern Star, and a Charter and very active member of the PEO SR Chapter, where she served as President three times. At Betty's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2016 in the chapel at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael, California. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Bronson @ Home Hospice in Battle Creek, MI.
