Sunrise July 13, 1958 – Sunset February 6, 2025

Betty Jean Simmons-Bascom departed this life on February 6, 2025. Born on July 13, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, to Edna Simmons and E.B. Simmons, Betty’s life was a testament to her kindness, resilience, and unconditional love—qualities that defined her from an early age and left a lasting impact on all who knew her. As a devoted wife and mother, Betty poured her heart into her family, ensuring that her husband and children always felt deeply loved and supported. Her home was a haven of warmth, laughter, and comfort, where everyone was welcomed with open arms and a smile that could light up any room. Beyond her role as a wife and mother, Betty found joy in gardening, cooking, going shopping and finding the best fruit market in town, especially during peach season. Her generous spirit extended into her career, where she dedicated over 15 years as a kitchen steward at Greektown Casino, forming lifelong friendships and touching countless lives with her kindness and compassion. She had a remarkable ability to connect with anyone, leaving a lasting impression through her laughter, conversation, sense of clothing style, and selfless acts of love. Betty shared a beautiful life with her husband, George Henry Bascom Jr., filled with cherished memories and unwavering love. Her greatest joy was her children, Anjelica and Gabrielle, whom she adored with all her heart. She also had a special place in her heart for her beloved pup, Austin D’Angelo Bascom, aka 2Pac, who brought her endless happiness. Betty faced life’s challenges with grace, faith, and unwavering strength, always leading by example. Her legacy of love, generosity, and resilience will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.** Betty is survived by her loving husband, George; daughters, Anjelica and Gabrielle Bascom; father, E.B. Simmons; and siblings, Walter, Dennis, Edward, Sharon (Everson Egger), Joanna Dismukes, and Angela (Reginald Poindexter); along with a host of nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Simmons, and siblings, George, Steven, and Norman. As we say our goodbyes, we take comfort in knowing that Betty is at peace, watching over us with the same love and warmth she always shared. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit shines brightly in the love she shared and the lives she influenced. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
