Betty Jean HoltonAge: 95 • Lecanto, FLBetty Jean Holton, age 95, passed away on October 27, 2017. Betty was a resident of Lecanto, Florida and a long time resident of Westminster, Vermont. Betty was the daughter of AA and Grace Newton of Kansas City, Missouri, born on 2-2-22.While attending college and working at the Kansas City Star newspaper as a journalist, Betty enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1944. While stationed in San Francisco met her future husband, William B. Holton, a United States Marine also stationed in San Francisco.After the war ended, Betty and Bill settled in Westminster Vermont and ran Holton Farms, Betty was the Town Clerk for the Town of Westminster and never lost an election until she retired in 1986.Betty and Bill picked up the game of golf at age 50 and enjoyed meeting many new friends all over the world. Betty and Bill were long time members of the Hooper Golf Club in Walpole, New Hampshire and the Plantation Golf Club and Spa in Crystal River, Florida.Betty was predeceased by her husband, William B. Holton in 2006 and her sister Mary Janke. Betty is survived by her daughter Nancy Goutas, of Beverly Hills, Florida, sons David Holton (Michele) of Essex Jct, Vermont, and Joel Holton (Helma) of Westminster Vermont. Her grandchildren Ira (Paige) Divoll, Ian (Erica) Divoll, Lindsay (Kevin) O'Fallon, Christopher Holton, Seth (Caitlin) Holton, Maria (Garin) Clough, Christina (Rick) Hamm and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her special friend, Carl Kinney of Spring Hill, Florida.There will be no calling hours.A funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church at 3470 US route 5, Westminster Vermont on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 am with burial at the Holton Family plot at the New Cemetery on Kurn Hattin Road.
