Betty Jean Lee, aged 104, passed away on May 6, 2023, in Brandon, Mississippi. Betty was born on September 16,1919, in Columbus, Mississippi, to Rosco Elbert Owens and Pluna Bethethlan Owens Holliman. She attended New Hope High School and later went on to study at Mississippi University for Women.
Betty had a spunky personality and was a true Southern Belle. She took pride in herself and her family. Betty and her husband John Lee owned Hansel & Gretel's Young Fashions and Modeling School for young children in El Paso, Texas. She belonged to the Texas Art Association and taught painting to adults and children. When she was younger, she was in a commerical for Diamond Coffee Company and worked for State National Bank in Columbu, MS. During her later years, she took writing classes and was published in various books for her short stories and poems. She loved to play the piano and sing. Betty never met a stranger and was always the life of the party. She was the matriarch of the family and will be forever loved and missed.
Betty is lovingly remembered by her daughter Teresa A O'Malley of Brandon, MS; her son Ronald O. Jaynes of Albuquerque, NM; and daughter Pamela K. Lee-Frank of Sacramento, CA. As well as her granddaughters Heather A. O'Malley-Haycraft of Brandon, MS, Desiree Jaynes, Jennifer Jaynes, and Annie Jaynes of Albuquerque, NM. Betty is preceded in death by her parents Rosco Elbert Owens and Pluna Bethethlan Owens Holliman. As well as her husband, John Gayner Lee.
