Korpi, BettyBetty Korpi, 96, De Pere, formerly of Marquette, MI, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2017, surrounded by family. The daughter of William and Ivy (Colman) Wirrel was born on August 24, 1920 in Sydney, Australia.Betty was the youngest of three children. Growing up, she liked to play tennis and go to Manley Beach in Sydney. She was proud to tell people of her surfing days as a young woman.During World War II, Betty met Hugo "Jack" Korpi while he was stationed in Sydney as a Merchant Marine. The two moved to the United States together in the 1940s and married in Detroit.Betty and Jack raised one daughter, Darlene as they moved all over the western United States. They settled in Marquette, Michigan where Jack preceded her in death in 1999.Betty is survived by her daughter, Darlene (David) Dahlke, De Pere.She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ivy, husband Jack, siblings, and one infant daughter, Diane.Family and friends may call at Faith Lutheran Church, 2335 S. Webster Ave. Green Bay, beginning at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 9, 2017. Betty's Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM.
