Betty Lou CrawfordSan AngeloBetty Lou (Ward) Crawford went to be with her Lord on Aug. 21, 2017, at the age of 87, in Eastland, Texas, after a long, hard battle with Alzheimer's disease. Betty was born on Aug. 30, 1929, the first of nine children born to Idella (Willey) and Richard Benton Ward.Memorial service is at 1p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at Johnson's Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas, followed by a graveside service at 4 p.m. in Marion Cemetery in Fife, Texas.Betty lived several places while her husband was in the military and always loved and remembered the time spent in England After the military, she lived most of her adult life in San Angelo, Texas. She worked in the insurance industry and the trust department of a bank before finding the job she so loved in the financial aid office for Angelo State University. She loved working with the young people and still corresponded with several that attended school there. Betty loved the Lord, her family, her church, children of any age and serving others. She served as church treasurer at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in San Angelo for more than 30 years. She was awarded a rare and coveted Service Award from the National Nazarene Church in 1991 for her many years as church treasurer and her willingness to serve.After the church was closed, she found a loving church to attend at Northside Church of Christ. Betty was an avid letter writer to family and friends, and had pen pals from Scotland, England and around the United States. Betty's home was open to everyone and was a safe haven for several during hard times. She was an amazing prayer warrior, grandmother and neighbor, and will be missed.Betty is survived by two sons, Ronnie D. Crawford and wife Teresa of Eastland, Texas and Michael L. Crawford and wife Debra of Keller, Texas; five grandchildren, Chris Crawford, Clint Crawford, Shane Crawford, David Crawford and Dawn Crawford; and six great-grandchildren, Jordan Crawford, Kash Crawford, Kylee Crawford, Kelsey Crawford, Brice Crawford and Raven Crawford. She is also survived by sisters JoNell (Ray) Shank of Globe, Arizona, Kitty (Bob) Baucom of San Angelo, Texas and Bernay (Dean) Lankford of Richmond, Texas; two brothers, Edwin (Marthelle) Ward of Lovington, New Mexico and Eldon Ward of Brady, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Ward and Kathryn Ward; and many nieces and nephews.One sister, Jane Huff and two brothers, Geary Ward and Dee Ward, preceded her in death.A special thanks to the staff of The Woodlands Living Center in Eastland, Texas, for the love, hugs, care and respect they showed Betty.
