Betty Ray RayburnBetty Ray Raburn died peacefully at her home Monday, January 16, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Nelson Hawood Raburn, her parents, and her siblings. She was born on February 6, 1926, to Bedford Forrest and Pearl Burke Ray. She was the youngest of four children, Florence Ray Lewis, Olan Burke Ray, and William Milton Ray. She is survived by her children Pamela Raburn Marr and husband Cecil, Patricia Raburn Hogan and husband Michael, and Forrest Raburn and wife Jill.She was and is 'Grandmommy" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Gary Shannon Lively, his wife Helen and children Paige Ann and Stephen James; Jonathan Raburn, his wife Ashley; Samantha Raburn Markham, her husband Michael; Molly Hogan Wierick, her husband Trent and daughter Mary Caroline; Ann Hogan Nuckolls, her husband Grant and daughters Emma Elizabeth and Natalie Ann; Elizabeth Hogan Parrott, her husband Cory and son Spencer Hogan and the baby Grandmommy was waiting to see, Emily Burke.Betty exuded kindness and creativity in all her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher, and as a store owner. She and her daughter, Trisha, started The Village Washstand in 1976 where customers became life-long friends.Her love of God and her faith in His promises are a gift she has given to each of us. Proverbs 31 seems to speak to her. She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She makes linen garments and sells them, She is clothed with strength and dignity; She can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, And faithful instruction is on her tongue. Her children arise and call her blessed; Charm is deceptive, and beauty fleeing; But a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised, Give her the reward she has earned , And let her works bring her praise at the city gate.The visitation will be Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street. A service celebrating her life will be held Friday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Pinecroft Baptist Church, officiated by her son-in-law Cecil Marr.Two of the greatest assets a physician can have are wisdom and compassion, thank you Dr. Robert Hernandez.
