It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Smith, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Betty peacefully departed from this world on July 28, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones in Flatbush, New York. She was born on January 25, 1942, to John and Margaret Smith, and grew up in the same close-knit community in which she lived her entire life.

Betty was known for her warm and compassionate nature. She had a contagious smile that could brighten up any room and easily connected with others, making lifelong friends wherever she went. Her generosity and willingness to help others were truly unmatched, and she dedicated countless hours volunteering at local charities and community organizations throughout her lifetime.

As a devoted mother and grandmother, Betty always put her family first. She cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, creating wonderful memories that will be cherished for generations. When she wasn't doting on her family, she found solace in her love for gardening and could often be found tending to her vibrant flower beds in her backyard oasis. Her green thumb and passion for nature were evident in the beauty she cultivated.

In addition to being an incredible nurturer, Betty was an avid reader and had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. She valued education greatly and spent countless hours discussing new books and ideas with friends and family, always encouraging lifelong learning. Her intelligence and curiosity knew no bounds, and she inspired all those around her to continuously seek growth and enlightenment.

Betty's impact on the Flatbush community cannot be overstated. She was an active member of the local neighborhood council for several decades, working tirelessly to improve the lives of residents and advocate for positive change. Her dedication to her community has left an indelible mark, and her legacy will continue to inspire others to work towards building a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Betty Smith is survived by her loving children, Jane (John) Thompson and Michael (Lisa) Smith; her cherished grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Matthew, and Andrew; and her dear siblings, Susan (Peter) Johnson and Robert (Karen) Smith. She will be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family members, and numerous friends who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will be held on Saturday August 12, 2023 at 6515 164th St, Fresh Meadows, NY 11365, United States. We invite all who knew and loved Betty to join her family in honoring her remarkable life.

Though she may be gone from our physical presence, Betty's spirit will forever live on in our hearts. She touched the lives of so many and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and love. May she rest in peace.
