Betty VanSeptember 23, 1932 - February 28, 2017TulareBetty Van, 84, of Tulare, CA passed away at home Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Betty was born on September 23, 1932 in Maysville, OK. Her family migrated to California during the Dust Bowl and her parents settled in Tulare when she was a young child. Betty attended Liberty Elementary School and Tulare Union High School. She did not graduate with her class but earned her GED as an adult in the 1970's.Betty married Floyd (Sonny) Van on November 19, 1950 in Yuma, AZ. They spent their entire married life in Tulare where Betty worked at the Tulare Public Library and was a pink lady at the Tulare District Hospital. She was famous for her divinity and her chocolate chip cookies. Everyone wanted her divinity and friends of her children continued to stop by for a visit and a cookie. Today Sonny has taken over the making of cookies.Betty is survived by her husband, Floyd (Sonny) Van, her brother Dan (Patricia) Hunt of Santa Clara, CA, sister-in-law Ennis Hunt of Visalia, CA, her children Doris Van of Fresno, CA, Laura (Ray) Fonseca of Tulare, CA, and Rick (Linda) Van of Tulare, CA, and several cousins. She has 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sandra (Stephen) Younker of Yakima, WA, her son David Van of Exeter, CA, and her brothers Roy Hunt, Al Hunt, and John Hunt.Betty was a member of the Tulare Assembly of God Church for over 60 years. She loved to read and volunteer at church, the library, and the hospital. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Our thanks to the staff at Dr. Miyakawa's and her caregiver Bianca.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Tulare Library Foundation, 475 N "M" Street Tulare, CA 93274.
