Betty (Twining) WallerPelican IslandBetty (Twining) Waller passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017 peacefully in her home on Pelican Island. Betty was born on August 17, 1923 in Philadelphia, and shortly after moved with her parents to the Jersey Shore, where they settled in Seaside Heights. Betty graduated from the Seaside Heights Grammar School in 1936 and Toms River High School in 1940. She and husband Bill moved to Pelican Island in 1954, where she has resided to this date. Betty was predeceased by her sons, Mark at age 10, Buzzy at age 19, granddaughter, Katie at age 26, husband Bill and parents Owen and Evelyn Twining. She is survived by her son Hugh and wife Pam, grandson Todd and wife Anna and great-grandson MacArthur, son Bruce and grandchildren Kristin and Rick, daughter Nancy Ostojich, Vinnie Piccoli and grandchildren Jennifer and Andrew Ostojich. Also, many dear cousins in New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. Betty enjoyed many interesting jobs throughout her life time including working in Asbury Park as a long distance telephone operator for New Jersey Bell Telephone, the New Castle Army Air Base and All-American Aviation in Wilmington, Delaware, the Arrow Travel Agency, Ocean County Community College and Dover Township Police in Toms River where she retired in 1988. Her many volunteer jobs included 25 years as a Court Mediator, 25 years at the Community Medical Center, 12 years at
the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen and 8 years on the Juvenile Conference Committee. She and husband Bill owned and operated the Mark III Motel in Seaside Heights for many years. A memorial service will be held on April 2, Sunday, from 1pm-5pm at the
Elks Lodge, Washington Street, Toms River. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Carmona-Bolen Funeral Home, Toms River. Following Betty's wishes, in lieu of flowers or donations, "take a friend to dinner". Betty believed, "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but learning how to dance in the rain."
