This obituary is administered by:
Beulah Mae JacksonAGE: 86 • Neptune CityBeulah Mae Jackson, 86, died peacefully on Friday, April 7, 2017, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center with family at her side. "Granny" was born on December 22, 1930, in Sebree, Kentucky, to Otis and Anna Bell Fox. She was a country girl, raised by her parents on a farm tending crops and livestock. She graduated elementary and high schools in Dixon, Kentucky. She then attended "beauty school" where she started her brief career as a hairdresser. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Gene "Bud" Jackson, an army Sergeant stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Within months the two were married in Cadiz Baptist Church, Cadiz, Kentucky on June 14, 1952. Upon Gene's discharge from the US Army in 1953 they moved to his hometown, Neptune City, where they bought their one and only home with a $50 down payment, borrowed from friends. They would call that their home for over 61 years until life's challenges brought them to Manor By the Sea Rehab and Nursing in Ocean Grove. Beulah loved her home and cherished her memories there. After being a stay-at-home mom for several years she entered the workforce. She worked at W.T. Grant in Neptune City, Stop & Shop in Neptune City as a cashier for several years (her favorite job), and as an office worker at The Lodge Nursing Home in Neptune where she worked alongside her very close sister-in-law the late Lillian Smith.Beulah was an active and long-time member of the Asbury Park-Wall Elks Lodge #128, enjoying the many social events and wonderful friendships. She particularly enjoyed competing in the Asbury Park Bocce Tournaments with the Elky Seltzers and the annual conventions in Wildwood, NJ. She and Gene truly enjoyed their retirement years traveling with friends and marveling at the arrival of each of their four grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Beulah was predeceased by her parents and a brother, John Fox. She is survived by her loving husband, Gene "Bud" Jackson, daughter Ginger Lee Hauter, son George S. Jackson and his wife Doreen R. Jackson, four grandchildren Rebecca Corwin, David Jackson and his wife Beth, Philip Jackson and his wife Jackie, and Ryan Jackson, three great-grandchildren Vivian Jackson, Luke Jackson, and Stella Jackson. The family extends a special thanks to Susan and James Hewitson, Beulah's "other children" who were so much more than neighbors. Your love and kindness were truly a shining light in her life. Also, our gratitude to the incredible staff of Manor By The Sea. You made her difficult times bearable and provided professional care in the most caring and compassionate way. To you we are eternally grateful. Visitation will take place at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Asbury Park-Wall Elks Lodge 128, 3409 West Bangs Avenue, Neptune, NJ 07753. Condolences may be left at www.obrienfuneralhome.com.
