Beverly Ann Rutherford, 78, passed away peacefully at Massachusetts General Hospital on April 2, 2013. Daughter of Anna Marie (Johnson) and Arthur Laurence Chapman, Beverly was born on November 20, 1934 in St. Marys, Pennsylvania. Beverly excelled in school and graduated at the top of her class from Warren High School in 1952. Beverly graduated from Northwestern University in 1956 with degrees in journalism and home economics and was the president of Kappa Delta Sorority for two years.Beverly served as the Director of Public Relations at Medical Center Hospital of Vermont and later Fletcher Allen Health Care until her retirement in 1997. Beverly was a member of the FAHC Auxiliary and served as its president from 1999 to 2001. During retirement, Beverly had more time to pursue her interest in flowers and gardening. She worked part-time at Kathy and Company Florist and at Gardener's Supply Company. It was during this time that she met her loving companion, Alfred Nunan. Beverly moved to Bay Head, N.J., in 2002. She and Alfred traveled a great deal and enjoyed life together on the Jersey shore. Between trips, Beverly visited and doted on her children and grandchildren. Beverly loved shopping, gardening, decorating for holidays, and above all, spending time with friends and family.Beverly was predeceased by her husband, Donald. She is survived by her children, Bradlee and Paige Rutherford of San Diego, Calif., Laurence and Debra Rutherford of Williston, Vt., Randall and Karen Rutherford of Bedford, N.H., and Trisha and James Averso of Amston, Conn.; dear sisters, Joycelyn Austen of Wellesley Hills, Mass.; and Karen Brisbois of Eaton Center, N.H.; six grandchildren, who were her pride and joy; and her loving partner of 11 years, Alfred Nunan of Bay Head, N.J. and Hop Bottom. The family would like to express their gratitude to the medical team at Massachusetts General Hospital for their expertise, caring and support during Beverly's cancer treatment and in her final days. A memorial service will be held to remember Beverly Rutherford on Saturday, May 4 at 1 pm at North Avenue Alliance Church in Burlington, Vt.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in remembrance of Beverly to the FAHC Auxiliary, c/o Connie Westfall, 3 Eastman Farm Rd., Burlington, VT 05408.
