Beverly Wilson, 78, of Jacksonville, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.Beverly Lea Skinner was born on Oct. 24, 1938, the fifth child of Glenn E. and Trilby Weiss Skinner. Bev is survived by her husband of 28 years, Harold D. Wilson of Jacksonville. She is also survived by her children from a previous marriage to James M. Alred of Springfield; James M. Alred Jr. (wife, Teresa K.) of Tuscola, Teresa A. Melton (husband, Harry) of Florissant, Missouri, and Sharon West (husband, Bruce) of Jacksonville. She is survived as well by three stepsons, Dennis Wilson (companion, Carol), Scott Hepler (wife, Kerry), and Randall Wilson (wife Michelle). She was preceded in death by her siblings, Kathryn Robson of Jacksonville, Captain Glenn E. Skinner Jr., USN, retired, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Mary Jane Carter of Northbrook, and Paula Tews of Memphis, Tennessee. Two of Beverly's siblings' spouses survive, Evelyn Chambers Skinner of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and E. Leo Carter of Deerfield; as well as a sisters-in-law Leta Reed of Chesterfield, Missouri, Helen Alred Kilchenmann (husband, Bill) of Gnadenhutten, Ohio, and Doris Alred Edwards of Belleville. Bev also treasured her many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as family meant everything to her.Beverly attended Franklin Elementary School, David Prince Junior High School, and Jacksonville High School, graduating in 1956. She then attended MacMurray College for one year, took time to start her family, and returned to school in 1964 at Western Illinois University, where she graduated in 1969 with a degree in fine arts. Bev accepted a teaching position at North Greene Unit District 3, Roodhouse and White Hall, and taught junior and senior high school art for 20 years, as well as being yearbook advisor and junior high girls' track coach during that period. Bev earned a master's degree in early childhood education during her teaching years. After marrying Harold Wilson on April 1, 1988, Bev moved to Grain Valley, Missouri; in 1989, she started a second career which led to her serving as director of volunteer services at Medical Center of Independence and (later) Independence Regional Hospital in Independence, Missouri. Beverly and Harold moved to Jacksonville in 2005, where they later became involved in volunteer work at Passavant Hospital until early 2016.Beverly has been a member of the Roodhouse Christian Church, Maywood Baptist Church (Independence, Missouri), and presently with her home church, Central Christian Church (Jacksonville), where her parents had been members for many years before her. She continued to educate within the churches she attended, teaching Sunday school, small group and singles/couples/marital classes for many years in Illinois and Missouri. Beverly was a voracious reader, surrounding herself with books of all types. She had a keen interest in her family history, quilts, travel, and her cats. She showed her love willingly and often, and she will be sorely missed by her husband, children, family, and friends.The family wishes to thank Beverly's friends and caregivers for help throughout her extended illness, including those associated with Memorial Home Services-Hospice and Heritage Health.A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Central Christian Church or Memorial Home Hospice.
