Bill G. MintonRedding, CABill G. Minton, "Dollar Bill", died peacefully in his home, surrounded by loved ones on March 26, 2016 in Redding, California at the age of 91.Bill is survived by his sister, Beverly Ann Branson of Little Marion, Indiana, his daughter Lynda Rice of Redding, Ca, his grandsons Jon Minton of Redding, Ca, Derek Dornsife of Chico, Ca. and five great-grandchildren Micaylah, Jerod, James, Marianne, and Henry. He is preceded in death by his wife Marylee Minton of Redding and daughter Marianne Hees of Sonoma, Ca.Bill was born on November 7th, 1924 in Little Marion, Indiana to Chap and Gladys Minton. He graduated with honors from Butler University in 1950 with a degree in Business Administration. He married the love of his life, Marylee Becklund on July 28, 1946 in Pocatello, Idaho. In March of 1947 they welcomed Marianne into the world followed by Lynda in May of 1948.Bill and family came to Redding in 1952 and he became Shasta County Executive Officer in 1955 where he served until 1983.Bill was an accomplished athlete who was scouted by the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs after batting .449 as a senior in high school. He chose to forego his baseball dreams to serve his country and joined the
Army directly out of high school. He was a dedicated and talented golfer who played to a single digit handicap almost from the time he picked up the game after moving to Redding.Bill was an active member of the church and very committed to various community and fraternal organizations which included but were not limited to the Elks, the Moose Lodge, and the Masonic Lodge.A funeral is scheduled for 11:00am on April 18th, 2016 at United Methodist Church at the corner of South and East Streets in Redding, Ca., with a reception to follow at the church.
