Bill RogersAbilene, TXBill Rogers, 62, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 in Fredericksburg, TX. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10:00AM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. in Abilene. Burial will follow at Aspermont Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Elliot-Hamil.Bill was born on July 31, 1954 in Rotan, TX to the late Clyde and Audie Irene Rogers. He lived in Aspermont for most of his childhood until moving to Abilene in 1969. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1972 and married Pamela Cook in 1973. He worked as a finish carpenter for much of his life in the Abilene area. He began working for HEB Grocery store in 1991. He was first hired as a temporary worker during the construction of the Abilene store and eventually became a manager in Facility Maintenance where he was responsible for several West Texas stores, including Big Spring, Midland, Odessa, San Angelo and Abilene. He often joked about HEB taking away his tools and giving him a laptop and khakis. He considered each of his HEB "partners" personal friends and loved his job.Bill loved the lake and eventually bought a place at Ft. Phantom. He was known for inviting just about everyone he knew to come fish and ski. He loved music and some of his favorites included everything from Etta James, to Creedence Clearwater Revival, to Dwight Yoakam and even Tupac. He was known to choose a track, and in his words "wear it out," literally playing the same song on repeat for hours. If you knew Bill, you knew his standard greeting was a fist bump to which he would share with you whether you were 9 months or 90 years old. He was known to wear his shades both indoors and out. He was easygoing and accepting of all people. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Irene. He is survived by son, Michael and grandson Nicholas of Abilene, as well as Brandon and wife, Danyel and their kids, Mya, Bennett, Lucas and Quinn, all of Tuscola. Sisters Ima Jean Harris, Ellen Woodard and husband, Dean; Janie Wagner and husband, Cleve; brother, Tommy and wife, Glenda. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
