Billy R. Spann Sr., 83, Olustee, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, Olustee, with Morgan Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.
Billy R. Spann, Sr. was born on August 7, 1933 in Arab, Alabama to John Asher and Gertrude (Kinney) Spann. He married Olivia Hunkeapillar in Iuka, Mississippi on July 4, 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on April 17, 1951. He served many tours including Alaska, England and Indochina. He served more than 21 years and retired as a staff sergeant on February 28, 1973. He was a member of the Altus Masonic Lodge No. 62 and enjoyed playing guitar and driving around in his '59 Dodge.
His parents and five siblings, Kenny, Faye, Doug, Lavon and Rosemary, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Olivia; five children, Bill Spann Jr. and wife Teresa, Johnny D. Spann and wife Verdonna, Sharon Deweese, Jimmy Spann and wife Sherry, and David M. Spann and wife Chara; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother J.A. Spann; and three sisters, Johnnie Ruth "Bonnie" Light, Arvella Derrick and Sue Henderson.
