LAGRANGE — Billy Fred Slone, 71, of LaGrange, died Friday, September 9, 2016, at his residence. He was born on December 1, 1944, in Lackey, Kentucky to William "Bill" and Renda (Hall) Slone. Billy worked as the night foreman at Machine-Rite in LaGrange for many years, the University of Kentucky Convention Center and Miller's Super Valu. He was an avid fan of all kinds of sports and his favorite team was the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Billy loved to read, play poker, go fishing and he never passed up a casino trip. Billy was a veteran of the U.S.
Army serving his country during the
Vietnam War. On September 18, 1987, he married Deborah (Walchle) Burger in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. She survives in LaGrange. Also surviving are his five daughters, Jenell Burger (Brett Maskow) of Howe, Kristy (Chad) Hochstetler of Wolcottville, Amie Burger of Howe, Melanie Burger (Noah Ream) of Sturgis, Michigan, and Carmen Lee (James Tabor) of Grayson, Kentucky; four granddaughters, Massie Maskow, Ashlyn Maskow, Steele and Chloe Hochstetler; four grandsons, Brody Tabor, Tyler Lee, Davy Weaver (Lindsay Appleton) and Reece Ream; two great-granddaughters, Allison and Leah Harold; three sisters, Marcella Slone, Jane (David) Betts and Marie (Rodger) Laramore all of Florida; a brother, John E. Slone of Kentucky; a brother-in-law, Clarence "Bud" Chaffins of Kentucky; and aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents; a sister, Frieda Mae Chaffins; a sister-in-law, Shirley Slone; a brother-in-law, Freddy Slone; and a granddaughter, Dorothy (Dottie) Weaver; preceded Billy in death. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016. at Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange, Indiana. Memorials may be contributed to the or Vernon Manor, home for children.
