Bob Franklin Durbin, 88, of Vandalia, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at his home.Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Terry Westerfield officiating. Burial will be in McInturff Cemetery in Hagarstown, with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia and VFW Post 9770 of Brownstown. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. He married Jean Coburn on Sept. 10, 1950; she preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 1978. He married Eva Ruppe Cearlock on Nov. 29, 1980.Bob served in the Army during the Korean War, being deployed overseas from 1951-52. After returning home, he worked as an oil well operator and later a supervisor for LB Hos Oil Co. in St. Elmo. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95, both of Vandalia; and he was a member of the Okaw Valley Saddle Club, holding various offices at the Okaw Valley Saddle Club in Vandalia. He was a volunteer for the American Legion Honor Guard and Meals on Wheels, and was a bus driver for Evergreen Outreach. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.He is survived by his wife; sons, Scott Durbin and his wife Kathy of Owaneco, and Max Durbin and his wife Debbie of Vandalia; stepsons, Lundy Cearlock and his wife Debbie of Paducah, Ky., Mike Cearlock of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Joe Cearlock and his wife Sandy of Vandalia; stepdaughter, Jill Miller of St. Louis; grandchildren, Matt Durbin and his wife Lisa, Adam Durbin and his wife Kylee, John Mars and his wife Kelcey, Seth Mars and his wife Claralyn, Jordan Mars, Kiley and her husband Shane Depew, Brandi and her husband Clayton Gathe, Jamie and her husband Lucas Cearlock, Lacie and her husband Travis Donaldson, Coy Bunyard and his wife Emily, Ty Bunyard and his wife Leah, Ben Cearlock, Jaxon Cearlock, Sarah and her husband Chris Wilguess, Sam Cearlock and Stone Cearlock; and many great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; a daughter, Chris Mars; and a brother, Kenneth Durbin.
