This obituary is administered by:
Bob Gene Haynie Bob Gene Haynie, 87, passed away on February 14, 2016 at his home in Lafayette, Louisiana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 19 at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, Louisiana beginning with family visitation at 8:00 AM and open visitation and service 8:30 AM until 11:00 AM. A Military Honor Guard Burial Service will follow at Lafayette Memorial Cemetery. Bob was born on October 23, 1928 in Dewey, Oklahoma, the son of George Lee and Leila "Sissy" Belle (Black) and brother to Harold. He spent his early years in Duncan, Maurde and Bartlesville, Oklahoma before moving to Pampa, Texas, where he graduated from Pampa High School in 1946. After graduation he moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where he became certified mechanic for John Deere. In 1948, Bob joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, working as a radar mechanic. While stationed in Biloxi, he met the women who would become the love of his life and dearest friend, Celina Machin. They met on a blind date in November 1950 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Bob was so smitten with Celina that he proposed in December and they were married on January 6, 1951 in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary together in January 2016. He will be so deeply missed by his partner in all things of life and his other half, Celina, Lafayette, Louisiana. He will be missed by his sons and daughter-in-laws, who were always like to daughters to him, Randy (Daynese), Bonnie, Mike (Mary), Dale (Christine), Lafayette, Louisiana and his daughter and son-in law, Barbara (Bill) Taft, Bloomington, Illinois. He will always hold a special place in the hearts of his grandchildren, Ellen (Robert) Lejeune, Colleen Blanchet, Lenny Haynie, Ryan (Alana) Haynie, Dayna Haynie, New York, New York, Rachel (Jonathon) French and his nine great grandchildren, Liam, Conner, Pierce, Foster, Elise, Ainsley, Sidney, Hunter and Juliette. He will also be missed by his niece and nephew, Cheryl and Hal Haynie. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Harold and his two eldest sons, Bruce Gene and Alan Lee Haynie. Bob was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1952 and joined City Service, beginning his long fulfilling career in the oilfield business. He and Celina moved throughout Louisiana and Mississippi with their growing family until settling in Houma, Louisiana in 1956. While in Houma, Bob found his vocation in the Boy Scouts of America. He was Cub Master to Pack 385 and Scout Master to Pack 311, during which tenure he was awarded both Cub Master of the Year and Scout Master of the Year. He helped design and build the first pinewood derby track in Houma, which went on to showcase countless pinewood derbies in Houma and the surrounding communities. He earned the Woods Badge and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society. Scouting became a family affair, with Celina at his side and children in tow. Vacations were spent in Percy Quin State Park or Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico training and teaching scouts. Bob and Celina headed the Scout Round Table in Houma until the family relocated to Lafayette in 1970. With the move to Lafayette, Bob, having joined Forest Oil Corporation in 1963, entered the final tenure of his employment, retiring in 1985. Throughout his life Bob enjoyed woodworking, hunting and traveling to many adventurous and relaxing locations with Celina. His favorite times of the year were summer, when he would fire up his oil drum grill, turn on his classic Country music and invite family to spend the day together; and Christmas when his family and the many friends he gathered throughout his life would come together to celebrate the season. The family would like to thank those special angels who live on earth as caregivers for taking such loving care of Bob in his final years-Beatrize Hewel, Shana Darby, Marquese Bardo, and Tiffany Alexander; and those other angels who are always there when you need them-Daynese and Bonnie Haynie and Carllene McMillian. Thank you to Drs. Juan Perez-Ruiz, Ron Daigle and Richard Bourgeois for the care they provided Bob and the support they gave the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lafayette Community Health Center, 1317 Jefferson Street, Lafayette, LA 70501, www.lchcc.net/ or Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503, http://www.hospiceacadiana.com/ Personal condolences may be sent to the Haynie family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
