Bonnie J. Hicks, age 42, a resident of Santa Fe, NM passed away on May 18, 2017. She was born on November 6, 1974 in Alamogordo, New Mexico to parents Bette Joy (B.J.) Shields and Thomas L. Shields.Bonnie met the love of her life at the age of 13 and married Steven Hicks at 25. They had 3 beautiful girls, Kailea, Kayla, and Shania who were her world. She is preceded in death by her father Thomas L. Shields, Grandparents Gertrude and Thomas P. Shields, Grandparents Elizabeth and W.O. Reynolds, Brother Thaddeus Shields and brother in law Jerry Hicks. She is survived by her Husband Steven K. Hicks, Daughters Kailea Hicks (Eric Lury) Kayla Hicks, and Shania Hicks, her Grandson Alec, Mother B.J. Shields, Brother Kevin Shields, Nephew Kevin K. Shields, Mother and Father in law Rick and Geraldine Hicks, Brother in Laws and Sister in laws Richard and Sha Hicks, Ray and Barbara Anchando, Michelle Hicks, and many Nieces, Nephews, Aunts and Uncles. She spent her time working in her backyard gardening, entertaining, and simply enjoyed being in her sanctuary. She worked at the New Mexico penitentiary as executive administrative assist for Behavioral Health, and absolutely loved her job, and everyone she worked with. She enjoyed cooking and made delicious feasts for everyone. She was a proud Mother of her girls, and took in another daughter, Caitlyn. She loved spending time with her girls, and taught them how to have a good time, but still get shit done. She taught her girls how to water ski, and had so much love for the lake. She also taught the girls to have love for others, work hard, and be strong. A memorial service will be held at the Kiva Chapel of Light (Rivera Family Funeral Home, 417 East Rodeo Road) at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 25, 2017 with a reception to follow at the Elk's Lodge.
