Sep 06, 1953 - Dec 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
BRAD CARLEY BRAD CARLEY passed away on Dec. 8, 2016 while walking on the beach in Australia--his favorite place in the world. He was born on September 6, 1953 in Los Angeles, CA, his parents (Howard and Beatrice Carley), soon relocated to Chico, CA. Brad was active in sports at an early age, excelling at baseball, where he played Little League, and on teams at Pleasant Valley High School and Butte Junior College. He was offered a scholarship to pitch for the UCLA Bruins, but elected to remain in Chico. He interned at Bestway Painters, ultimately working for them and then started his own business--Brad Carley Painting--in the late 70's. He successfully ran this business until his passing. Brad's passion for golf led him to volunteer for over 20 years with the NCGA as a course-rating captain, taking him all over the country. In 2005, he was awarded Course Rater of the Year. Brad also volunteered for the past 15 years as a scorekeeper at the Albertsons Boise Open with his brother Glen (and sister-in-law Kim), who resides in Boise. Brad also worked at several US Open Golf Championships. Brad met Jackie Pitt--his best friend and love of his life--skiing in Squaw Valley, CA. They were married in April 1982. In their 35 years of marriage, they traveled to various parts of the world. Together they shared a love for their pets and their home. Brad also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Brad had a special bond with his nephew and niece, Blake (wife Megan) and Amber (Warren-husband Sam), visiting them often for family activities in Idaho. He also leaves behind Jackie's two sisters, Shari Pitt (Chico) and Judy Pedder (Oregon), his step-sister Julie Gruenke and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Brad lived his life to the fullest with humility. He played hard and worked hard, always concerned with the well being of others. Brad was loved by many and will be missed by many. In memory of Brad, there will be a Celebration of Life reception at Canyon Oaks Country Club (his home course) on Saturday, January 21 from 3-7 p.m. "Time for sodies!!"
