West, Brenda B.Brenda B. West, age 77, of Knox Street in Campbell, NY went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 26, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Brenda was born on January 12, 1940 in Corning, NY to Frank and Mary Louise (Prugh) Button. She graduated from Williamson High School in Tioga, PA in 1957, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Mansfield State Teachers College (Mansfield, PA) and later obtained a degree in Elementary Administration from SUNY Brockport. Brenda married Sheldon West on August 12, 1961 in Tioga, PA. Brenda taught kindergarten, "begindergarten" and pre-first grade for 36 years at Campbell (later Campbell-Savona) Central School District and retired in 1997 as an Assistant Elementary Principal for the Campbell-Savona Central School District. She loved traveling, spending time with grandchildren, music, singing duets with Sheldon, and collecting dolls. She was devoted to and loved working with her elementary students and staff and was a proponent of a developmentally appropriate curriculum. She was co-founder and past president of the NY State Council of Developmental Educators and presented workshops for parents, teachers and administrators in New York and New Jersey. Brenda was a member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary sorority of women educators, a member of Instructor Magazine National Teacher Advisory Board and was one of 200 women educators invited to witness the space shuttle launch of Sally Ride as the first American woman in space in 1983. Brenda was a member of Campbell United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and directed the bell choir. She was an associate member of Pigeon Forge, TN United Methodist Church where she also sang in the choir, was a member of Campbell Lions Club and belonged to the Corning Area Retired Teachers Association. She ushered at Clemens Center in Elmira, helped guide RSVP bus tours around the country with Sheldon and volunteered at the National Quartet Convention of Gospel performers for nearly 20 years. She is survived by her husband Sheldon; daughters, Jana Harrian of Savona and Joelle (Marc) Schwartz of Brewster, NY; son, Philip (Loren) West of Marietta, GA; sister, Yvonne Rodgers of Harrisburg, PA; grandchildren, Abigail, Zachary, Ian, and Sadie; sister-in-law, Sharon (Phil) Linder of Tioga, PA; brother-in-law, Sherman (Patty) West of Olympia, WA and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at Campbell United Methodist Church, 8516 Main Street in Campbell, on Sunday, November 5th from 4-6 PM and on Monday, November 6th from 10 AM-12 Noon, Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 Noon. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Tioga, PA.Memorial donations may be made in Brenda's name to Campbell United Methodist Church.Brenda's family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
