He also leaves behind six grandchildren; Maria, Thomas, Michael, Benjamin, Zachary and Alysa and four great-grandchildren; Trent, Natalie, Mina and Nathan. Bruce was a veteran of
World War II and the Cold War. Bruce was born on December 6th, 1928 in Galveston, TX to parents Bruce E. and Lucy Gregory Taylor. He was baptized at and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and School through second grade. Bruce's early years were exciting, his mother Lucy remarried a sea captain, welcoming siblings Joanne and Joel. The family lived in various ports throughout the U.S and Bruce often told stories of living in Cambridge, MA where he visited libraries and museums. As a young boy, Bruce was very independent, often travelling by himself to visit family. He was devoted to his mother and siblings and was the father figure at home, while his stepfather was at sea. Bruce spent 18 months in the US
Army at the end of WWII and 4 years in the
US Air Force in the 1950's. He met his wife Rose while in the Air Force and after being Honorably Discharged, returned with Rose and his family to Austin, TX to attend the
University of Texas. He worked for Texas Nuclear for 23 years where he was the factory manager. After leaving Texas Nuclear, he and a partner opened their own business, Reliable Manufacturing in Round Rock, TX. Bruce often said having his own business was the most satisfying work experience of his life. Bruce retired and he and Rose spent many years travelling the US and Mexico. Bruce enjoyed fishing, square dancing and spending time with his family. Bruce also volunteered at The Caring Place, Habitat for Humanity and the Wesleyan Hospice. Bruce leaves a legacy of family military service as his children and grandchildren have all served and continue to serve as officers and enlisted members of the US Army, US Navy, and US Coast Guard. Bruce will never be forgotten. Services will be held this Sunday at 4:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church in Georgetown, TX.
