Bud (Clarence) Hertzner, age 73, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017. He was surrounded by loved ones and his Christian family. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 50 years; daughter Shelia Morris and husband Dan of Alamogordo; brothers Pat (Carol) Hertzner of DeKalb, IL, George (Barbara) Hertzner of Rockford, IL, and extended family in IL, WI, and MT. Bud was born on June 30, 1944, in Cherry Valley, IL and grew up in the farming communities surrounding Rockford and DeKalb, IL. He entered the Air Force in 1963 and served proudly for 26 years. His career was in a variety of jobs in the aircraft maintenance field. Assignments included 2 tours to Viet Nam, Florida, Idaho, Arizona, Spain and England.After retiring at Holloman in 1989, Bud worked for Dyncorp and Lockheed. He loved square dancing and danced with the local square dance clubs for 27 yrs. He served as club president several times and he and his wife served as state presidents in 2014 for New Mexico Square and Round Dance Assn. and hosted the NM State Square Dance Festival here in Alamogordo. He liked to go camping in the cool mountains and worship at Ranchman's Camp in NM and Horn Creek Ranch in Colorado. He was an avid supporter of veteran's programs and Christian servicemen's centers around the world. Bud never knew a stranger and tried to be a friend to everyone. He is sorely missed by all.Friends may call on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home.
