We are gathered here today to bid a fond farewell to the one and only Buddy Simmons. Born on September 22, 1943 in Artesia, New Mexico, Buddy lived a life full of laughter, love, and a whole lot of shenanigans.
He was the beloved son of Virgil and Mary Simmons, and the loving husband of Brenda Simmons for an impressive 62 years. Together, they raised four children - Sherrie, Glenda, Buddy (who ironically shares the same name as his father), and Curtis. Buddy also leaves behind five grandchildren who, for the sake of their privacy, shall remain nameless.
Buddy was a proud graduate of Artesia High School, Class of '61, and went on to work at Artesia Headstart until his well-deserved retirement in 2015. In his earlier years, he served bravely in the Marines - a fact he would regale anyone within earshot with at any given opportunity.
When he wasn't spinning tales of his glory days in the service, Buddy could often be found tinkering away in his garage, meticulously rebuilding cars and dreaming up wild new projects. It was a hobby that brought him endless joy and frustration in equal measure.
Unfortunately, Buddy's final ride came to an unexpected halt when he suffered a severe stroke on June 5, 2024.
As we say goodbye to this larger-than-life character, let us remember him for his quick wit, infectious smile, and unwavering love for his family and friends. Rest in peace, Buddy - may you forever be swapping war stories with the angels.
