Dr. Calvin Caramela, 94, passed October 7, 2017 with his son, David, at his side. He was born June 2, 1923, in Dubois, Pennsylvania.
In January 1943, Calvin went into United States military and began training as a doctor during World War II. At that time in our country, there was a dire need for doctors and dentists and Calvin rose to the call. In March 1946, he furthered his medical education when he left the military and went on to serve at Walter Reed, the Mayo Clinic, and a number of other top hospitals in the country. The list of patients Cal treated, helped and even saved their lives is too long to list. In 1965 Calvin went to Garland, Texas and opened up his practice as a urologist. He was the first urologist in Garland. He was stationed at Garland Memorial Hospital, and Garland Clinic. He loved medicine and playing golf. These were the passions in his life.
Calvin passed away at his son, David's home with him at his side. He is preceded in death by his children, Michael, Jennifer, Claudia, David, Donna (his daughter-in-law who he turned to for emotional comfort in his last months greatly along with his son David) and stepdaughter Karen. Cal also has a sister, Michelle Blackwell in Palm Coast, Florida.
