Calvin F. Hager (Cal), 90, passed away on Aug. 22, 2015 in Santa Fe. He was born on April 23, 1925 in Fairbury, Neb., to Ernest and Alice Hager.Cal grew up in Nebraska. He served in the Army during WWII and the Korean War. In between and after the wars he earned his bachelor of arts degree from The University of Washington, and his master of education and doctor of education degrees from the University of Nebraska. He began teaching at New Mexico Highlands University in 1962 where he taught until his retirement and where he was recognized as professor emeritus in 1987.Cal was a member of Elks Lodge #408, Masons, and was an active member of the fellowship of AA. He was a lifelong democrat and served in the Constitutional Convention in 1967. He was a big fan of Nebraska Cornhusker football as well as all NMHU and northern New Mexico high school sports teams and activities. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, fishing, and all of the beauty of northern New Mexico. Cal was preceded in death by Norma, his wife of 54 years; and his son: Walter.He is survived by his daughter: Ruth (Charlie) Strong of Indiana; his son: Alan Hager of Oklahoma; and his daughter: Sarah (Joe) Roybal of Pojoaque; and his grandchildren: Miriam, Erika, Richard, Matthew, Amy, and Sam, as well as numerous brothers, sisters, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.The family would like to thank his friends Bernadette, Laura, Lucille, Victor, the Roybal family, the many caregivers at his residences, and the people at Ambercare Hospice who played such an important part in enriching his later years in life.Private services have already been held, with burial at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
