Calvin Willberg died on July 21, 2012 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Calvin was born on June 17, 1931 in Painesville, Ohio. He met his wife, Carolyn (Saffer) at Ohio State University. They then moved to Seattle, where Calvin completed a PhD in Geography from the University of Washington. Cal and Carolyn loved to travel, and lived in many cities during their more than 50 years of marriage, including: Anchorage, AK; Washington DC; Santa Clara, CA; Ellensburg WA, Hirakatoshi Japan, Niantic CT, and Cincinnati, OH. The Willberg family moved to Ellensburg in 1969. Calvin taught at Central Washington University (then Central Washington State College) first in the Geography and then in the Computer Sciences departments until his retirement. During his time in Ellensburg, he was an enthusiastic explorer of the geography of the Kittitas and Yakima valleys and became an orchardist and farmer.He is survived by his children and grandchildren: daughter Kyle Karen and her husband Reed Karen, their children Ray and Justine Karen, of Shelter Island, NY; and Kriota Willberg and her husband Robert Sikoryak of New York, NY. A memorial service will be held in the Lounge area of Dean Hall at Central Washington University on Friday, August 31 at 1:30pm.
